About

I worked with my hands my entire life – the majority of the time I’ve worked in the plumbing industry. Eventually, I was fortunate enough to work for myself and have my own business for many years.

However, in 2014 I had the option to retire from my business, so I did. At this point it gave me some time to reflect on what I really wanted to do with the rest of my life and since I was still relatively young, I felt like it was a good time to go in a new direction. I thought about all the years that I had to put my true passions on the back burner and only indulging in them in my spare time. The fact is that I loved what I did for a living; however, I wanted to try a new route and explore those things that I loved and were never able to fully explore.

I knew that I would be purposeful in my pursuit of my passions. I knew that I had many ideas in my head, but it was not until I watched a video about building a cigar box guitar and I was so enamored with the idea that I decided to try it myself. I was fascinated with designing the perfect cigar box guitar and how each one sounded different and resonated slightly different than the next. I continued to build them, trying to make one better than the last until before I knew it, I had made over 100 of them, trying to perfect the sound but yet keeping the integrity of the history and a homemade feel. In some weird way this catapulted me back into woodworking.

I applied a lot of the principles of accuracy that I used for not only the cigar box guitars that I’ve built but for my actual electric guitars. Somehow this gave me a new focus on accuracy and geometry that I have never had before. Beyond this, I wanted to create things that were naturally beautiful, useful, and had a purpose. I wanted what I created to be eclectic, malleable, and useful pieces of art made of domestic and exotic woods, both new and recycled or discarded and everything in between. I love contrasting dark and light woods, rejuvenating them and bringing out the beauty and the grain. All of these items I would first try as a prototype, use it daily, build and rebuild until I worked all the kinks out. I felt that if the item is something that I loved surely it was something that was worth sharing with others. This, in essence, is how I was able to create a product line hopefully others will appreciate the way I do.
